Theme
The main theme in Where
She Went is that true love never goes away and it will always find
a way to work out. In the beginning of the book you think that all hope of Adam
and Mia ever getting back together is lost because it says that "She
told me that she loved me more than life itself. Then she stepped through
security. She never came back." (Forman 470). When they hang out one
important night, it seems there is a chance again and that they never stopped
loving each other. Towards the end of the book when Mia asks, "Can I come
to the festival with you?" (Forman 247), you can tell that she wants to
find a way for her and Adam's love to live on forever. Also, throughout the
book you can tell how much Adam misses Mia and that he is longing for her love
again. When he goes to her concert one night in New York City, even if he does
not get to talk to her, he feels her love again. All of the examples support
the theme that true love never ends and that is will always find a way to work
out.
A second theme in Where She Went is that no matter how hard you try, you can never forget the ones you love. Adam and Mia have both tried to move on since going their separate ways. Although it seems like they are happy on the outside, Adam finds himself thinking, "it's just one day, one twenty-four-hour period to get yourself through" (Forman 3) and Mia keeps to herself just going through the everyday motions of life. Adam is always kind of out of it and no longer enjoying the band and all of the publicity that comes with it. Both Adam and Mia alike found joy in their lives when they were together. They both tried to move on and forget about each other and hopefully find love with someone else. In the end, even though they tried, they could not live without each other because they love each other and you can never forget the ones you love.
