Where She Went has some irony in it that has carried
over from If I Stay. One example of irony
that starts in If I Stay is Adams promise. He
told Mia, "If you stay, I'll do whatever you want. I'll quit the band, go
with you to New York. But if you need me to go away, I'll do that too..."
(Forman 200). Adam now realizes that his promise is part of the reason why Mia
left and cut off contact with him. He had said that it was okay for her to
leave and he would do whatever it takes for her to stay. It is ironic because
he is mad at Mia for doing exactly what he said she could. If he would not have
told her that she may not have stayed, but she could have stayed and stayed
with Adam through the rough time instead of leaving him.
